Queensland State Election 2024

In October 2024, I was the Labor candidate for the state seat of Redcliffe. I was seeking to succeed outgoing Attorney General and Minister for Domestic Violence Preventio, the Honourable Yvette D'Ath. The swing against Labor was on, and the electors of Queensland voted for a change of government. I was narrowly defeated, with the final margin just 2.9%.

However, I was privileged to serve the community as candidate and honed my skills as a leader of people and a voice for those who are otherwise voiceless. Importantly, I take enormous pride in conducting a campaign that was steeped in integrity, honesty and kindness.

The campaign to legislate Voluntary Assisted Dying in Victoria, Australia 2017

In 2017, I found myself acting as an advocate in the media for Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation, introduced into the Victorian Parliament in the second half of that year.

Since then, Voluntary Assisted Dying has been legislated in every Australian state and will be operational in the ACT from 3 November 2025. The Northern Territory had it's right to make laws about assisted dying restored in December 2022, but no bill has yet been put before the parliament.
